Pieces of a Year
Hold onto your expectations--
place them in a jar, then
set aside.
Perhaps they'll bubble or
rise like a sourdough starter.
More likely, another countertop
soldier merges into
the mishmash collage of life.
It's ok, babycakes. I got you.
This is our winter
(whether hot or cold).
You're allowed
to do whatever--
paste things
into albums
or on to the face
of things.
Turn up volumes,
switch gears,
make analog matter--
dig hard into the groove
(more now, a little more).
Or maybe, finally,
toss out those old
sagging beasts, such
sulky, unworthy things.
*Rattle them bones--
take or make stock--
these are your
accumulated hours.
You don't have to
post or prove anything,
sweetie pie.
You don't have to do
anything at all.
Last year on December 30th, I wrote about the closing of the year. This year I’ve been finding myself in the closing down, less full of words, but still wanting to write as the year ends.
And also, as the the new year starts, I am starting a few things (actions as resolutions).
I will be facilitating the workshop at Art School KC “Cultivating a Writing Practice” in real life in Lee’s Summit, weekly starting January 8th.
I will be taking a yearlong virtual workshop with Vibrant Growth Arts called “Finding Water: The Art of Perseverance” (exploring the Julia Cameron book) led by contemplative artist Susan Ernst. I am SO excited about this and there is still time to signup for this if you want to join in. It starts Jan. 3rd.
I continue to use my Apple watch and the Run Across America app to help me to keep active. It’s been vital to keep me walking and hiking. There’s also a great local women’s walking/talking group I’ve joined that I love.
I use my Day One Journal to keep me on track with my writing goals.
Colin and I will be giving Dry January a try again this year! Why not?
I am committed to yoga because being bendy matters. But I’m moving back over to the Lee’s Summit town gyms again because a) Tati wants to go the gym more, and b) the yoga gym was getting a little pricey.
Will I fail spectacularly at some/perhaps all of these things? Sure… but it’s fun to try anyway!

Oh, and music. Always, more music!
here here to being more bendy in 2024!
