What goes up
Dear You,
In the 134 years of counting in this KC area, we have now hit the top 30. A streak of seven days with measurable precipitation. Today is Friday and it will rain again tomorrow so I am not sure where that will land us.
I am a dork so my favorite account to follow on Twitter is the National Weather Service in Kansas City, nearby in Pleasant Hill. I probably also like following them because they are also dorks, put up with my gif addiction, and answer questions when I ask them:
Did you know?
One of the rules you absolutely must adhere to in the pubs in London is agreeing upon the misery of the weather?
This was handy advice that Colin and I learned a little bit too late after picking up a book on the quirks of British culture from the 5 quid bin back in the day.
I’d be at the bar pouring a pint and my vexing conversation with Alastair or some other regular would go like this:
“Pint of Pride, please".
“Sure thing. Has the rain let up at all out there?”
“Nah, it’s still tipping down. Absolute shit weather.”
(uh oh…here it comes!)
“Oh I don’t know,” I reply with a cheery grin, probably ALSO leaving an 1/8” of head on the beer as well! “It’s raining now but it’s bound to clear up eventually.”
Smile. Blink Blink.
There’s just nothing worse than disappointing a British person.
Chat to you again soon.
XO,
mE—
P.S. Read latest poem on dreams, featuring my favorite Avenger.
