I find it to be extremely fulfilling and edifying also, at least when I can get off my lazy behind long enough to do it--but, it is this feeling of gratification itself that then leads me back into questioning whether I'm only doing it for my own good after all. I suppose my little philosophical circle of hell doesn't matter much to the person or group that is being helped.
I actually think there is a large amount of truth to this! It may not always rise to the surface as a conscious excuse, but it's certainly working as a demotivating factor somewhere in the depths of my psyche. I'm trying to move more towards the 'don't think just do' philosophy, but I continue to be a slow work in progress.
